Wednesday May 23rd is the official 10 year anniversary of starting this blog. It’s an exciting milestone that few bloggers achieve! I’m going to go BIG and spend the whole week unabashedly celebrating. Especially because four days after my 10 Year Blog Anniversary, I celebrate my 10 Year New York Anniversary! My very first blog post was titled “Four Days” for this reason.
I hope you’ll have fun celebrating with me! As always, this blog would be nothing without you here to read it!
Let’s kick off the 10 YEARS celebration with a popularity contest:
What are my most-read posts of all time? This was a fun list to compile. Some make perfect sense, some are surprising, some are very much thanks to Google search terms! Let’s make it a countdown starting with:
The Truth is I’m Not Doing So Well
A post from 2013 with no pictures, just vulnerability and feelings. I wrote this at a low point after a painful break up and, apparently it was relatable.
14 Acceptable Reasons to Ghost Your Date
The day after I wrote this in 2015, the New York Times did a story about the new dating phenomenon “ghosting”. Thus I felt very cutting-edge with this post and like I hit a great balance between personal story and humor. Two things which made me feel better about the shitty experience of being ghosted!
11 Reasons You Need to Ride the Roosevelt Island Tramway
I adore this tram, it’s easily my favorite thing about the MTA. Happy that this post is spreading the word about this whimsical New York activity that it took me over 5 years of living here to hear about!
What’s My Problem With a Good Old “Text Me When You Get Home”?
A controversial post about how I flinched on first date when he said, “Text me when you get home?” What the fuck is my problem with this seemingly sweet request made for a controversial blog post.
Goodbye Jekyll and Hyde Club, Goodbye Steady Acting Gig
I used to work at an interactive theme restaurant in Times Square called the Jekyll and Hyde Club, did you know? It was a tourist trap but a ton of fun. When it closed abruptly in 2015, I wrote this farewell post. Thanks to very little press on the closing, it gets a lot of attention from fans of the place Googling “what happened to NYC Jekyll and Hyde?”
19 Reasons I Didn’t Reply to Your Online Dating Message
Oh boy. I wrote this post in 2016 but it still frequently gets nasty, angry comments. Most recently I’ve been called a “narcissistic sociopath”, “egocentric person full of hatred”, and a “bimbo” by men commenting on this post! All because I shared examples of 19 online dating messages I didn’t reply to, the vast majority because they contained zero indication of even looking at my profile. I don’t engage with the comments, I just roll my eyes and laugh. And share the worst ones on Twitter.
What Happened to the High Line Kiss Mural?
Walking the High Line on a gray winter day, I made the horrible discovery that the iconic sailor kiss mural had been painted over gray. When I looked on the internet for answers as to why, I found NOTHING. So this blog post was really the first thing on the internet about the loss of this awesome street art. I wrote an update recently after seeing that the building the mural was painted on has been torn down.
A Former Usher’s Tips for Getting Shakespeare in the Park Tickets
My very first job in NYC was ushering for Shakespeare in the Park. I love this theater and everything it stands for. It always shocks me to hear how many New Yorkers steer clear just because they’ve heard “the line is awful” and it’s “impossible to get tickets”. I wrote this post to share all my tips about how to get free tickets. It really isn’t that hard and oh SO WORTH IT,
No Kissing Until The Third Date, Then I Binge on Oreos
A dude didn’t kiss me until the 3rd date – very slow for NYC standards- and I wrote this post about it. I’m SHOCKED at how popular this post is, but apparently lots of people Google “no kissing until the third date”. I wonder how many people have been inspired by my experience of taking matters into my own hands!
Dating Someone VS Seeing Someone: What’s the Difference?
Apparently the whole internet is confused by the difference between “dating” and “seeing” because this post sky rocketed to be my #1 Most Popular of All Time just one year after writing it! There’s still NO consensus on exactly what these terms mean in the dating world…
