10 Favorite Posts from 10 Years of Blogging

My blog turns 10 years old tomorrow! There are very few things I’ve managed to stick with for whole decade, but hey, this is one of them! Today I’m sharing my top 10 favorite posts I’ve ever written. It was madness slaughtering 850 posts down to ten but I (almost) did it!

Not surprisingly, they’re mostly personal posts. I can remember vivid moments about the writing process with some of them, others marked significant blog milestones.

These are in chronological order, no popularity contest today!

1. My Life as a Chick Lit Blurb

This was the first blog post I ever wrote that make me feel really proud. It’s rambly with run on sentences, but it successfully captures the mood of my very first New York City break up, with on of the most cliché fuck boys I ever dated.

2. Stand-up Sellers and Seducers

The beginning of the most epic story I ever told on the blog- my torrid affair with a 19 year-old South African traveler. Use your imagination to guess how badly that ended then read the 10 part “saga” because the true is probably even more ridiculous.

3. I’ll Make Up a Biker Boyfriend If It Makes Life Easier

A blog post all about my experience of working as a promo girl at a giant motorcycle convention. I’m not sure if it’s more relevant in this #TimesUp era or if it doesn’t quite hold up…regardless, it’s absolutely relatable. This post changed my blog. Word Press featured it on their home page which skyrocketed my readership. Thus I’m eternally grateful to my imaginary boyfriend, Joe.

Unlike any post I’d written before or since, this captured a tiny moment on a city street that I exploded into a farfetched fantasy. It’s a peek into my brain and a crucial part of my process of healing from heart break.

My blog coming out milestone! Up until this post from February 2014, I was an annonymous blogger, only showing photographs of my back or my face masked by sunglasses. If referring to myself by name I literally used the pseudonym “New York Cliche” or “Cliche” for short. That all changed here with this “big reveal” and it was an exciting day of attaching my name to everything I’d created with this blog

Part love letter to my chosen New York City family, part glorious display of nature over NYC iconic landmark. Going to Coney Island to watch the sunrise with your friends sounds absolutely nuts, but if you read this post I bet you’ll want to do it too.

I admit, I blogged more than I should have about my ex-boyfriend who really, really hurt me. It was when I was blogging anonymously, so I really didn’t see the problem. This was the last post ever mentioning him and it was nice closure both on the blog and in real life.

I remember having the idea to write this post long before I wrote it, but I wasn’t sure I could do it justice. When I finally sat down and just wrote it, the Harry Potter comparisons all came really easy and I still think they’re on point. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway really should include a copy of my map in their Playbill.

9. A First Date Worth Getting Excited About?

Seemingly the stuff first date dreams are made of, readers came crashing down right with me after an amazing first date that suddenly went no where. You’d never, ever guess that the guy in this post is now my boyfriend, but that’s the truth of it! The fairy tale ending after the fake out came after all.

10. 22 New York Minutes of Fleeting, Fabulous Gratitude

A Thanksgiving post that inspired one of the favorite features of my daily blogging “Weekly New York Minutes”. I love reflecting on just how often I experience moments of  gratitude for this amazing city!
