New York Weekly Minutes #38

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for HALLOWEEN WEEK.

A Toy Garden

In a very far east corner of the Lower East Side, I stumbled across this perennial garden. “Welcome to Wanda Z. Karloz Toy Garden” a sign above a pink plastic doll house proclaims. It’s an impressive collection of abandoned toys all outside an NYC housing project that made me smile as I passed by. And think about Toy Story 3 (such a good movie).

Fresh Paint in Chelsea

Fresh paint going up on 22nd and 10th! You can see this wall from the High Line. I blogged all about the previous street art mural at this location, you can find that here: Fresh Paint by Street Artist Pixel Pancho Goes Up in Chelsea. Can’t wait to see what this wall will look like next week!

Sexy Halloween with Wasabassco Burlesque

I went to a costume contest & burlesque show for Halloween at City Winery! Hey, the city streets are full of half-naked people for this holiday, why not level up with true pros? Entertaining and sexy, with a perfect touch a camp and goofiness too. The burlesque troop was one of the best known in NYC – Wasabassco. It was a perfect intro burlesque show, more so than the first show I ever saw, with rapid fire performances that allow no time for awkwardness. Host Sapphire Jones was hilarious perfection (and my new girl crush). Burlesque is super fun and if you’re at all interested, I highly recommend Wasabassco!

Halloween Decorations in NYC

Halloween decorated houses and brownstones in Chelsea! Yes, the New York Cliché is apartment living, but there are plenty of millionaires  home owners in the city too! Many of them go ALL OUT for the holidays to make up for those of us who can’t!

Most houses go for traditional pumpkins and/or ghouls. But this place on 22nd Street committed completely to a minion theme.

Best New York Cliché Halloween Costume

I saved the best for last. I saw many Halloween costumes on the streets and subways (and dogs!) of NYC this week, but this little dude was easily my favorite. Dressed up like the A Train, while waiting for the train! The MTA should hire him to do damage control for their reputation…

Those were fun little moments of my week. How was yours? Did you have a fun Halloween? What was the best costume you saw/what did you dress up as? I was pretty low key this year, opting for an on brand “Sexy Bodega Cat” costume. So fun, but I am definitely ready to take it easy this weekend.

Now, if you missed my Halloween Dog Parade post from Monday you MUST go look. It’s the cutest thing I’ll ever post! It’s impossible to ever get enough adorable, costumed puppies, so I also made this video (hoping to add more video content now that I’m not daily blogging!)
