New York Weekly Minutes #37

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this October soon-to-be-Halloween week.

I am currently working a very corporate day job, but it’s not so bad when I sneak into sections of the office no one ever goes and find views like this. Totally worth it for the weird looks of “what is she doing?”

This red carpet and next-level pumpkin displays ever so extra. What kind of venue would you expect this to be outside of? Pretty sure it’s just a Midtown fancy-schmancy restaurant.

This display was outside a less shmancy restaurant in Chelsea. Establishments don’t do much in the way of decorating in the summer, so when fall hits it’s especially noticeable when decor gets festive.

Saw this woman casually putting up a moss wall in the lobby of a building on 53rd Street. The area surrounding houses a Starbucks, serves as the lobby for many offices, and is also an indoor public space with plenty of tables and chairs that anyone can occupy at any time. Kind of like a park, but without the chance of rain or wind chill. I love indoor public spaces, I really should write a round up of all the ones in Midtown. But I’ve never seen one with a moss wall before!

It is Halloween weekend and I can wait for all the strange sights the subway has in store for us this weekend. Got my first taste on Friday evening as I was leaving work with this tiny little mermaid tail swimming down the E train stairs. (Not a great capture, but you get the idea!)

Those were some fun moments of my week. This weekend I’m headed to one of my favorite events of the year- the Tompkin Square Halloween Dog Parade! If you want a sneak peak of what’s in store, check out my coverage from years  past.
