New York Weekly Minutes #40

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this fall/pre-mature winter week…

Caging my Boyfriend at MoMA PS1

I’ve lived in NYC for TEN YEARS and this was the first time I ever visited MoMA PS1! Since moving to Queens, it’s now my neighborhood museum. MoMA PS1 is basically the weird, angsty sister of the super popular MoMA everyone knows and loves. The building was once an old public school (thus the PS). Much of the art on display is what you think of when you think of that modern art cliché. Where the work makes you slightly uncomfortable, it’s certainly not beautiful, and you wonder if you’re a little stupid for not “getting it”. Read More

Bright Foliage, Big City: New York Fall in Central Park

It is peak, glorious, beautiful fall in NYC, right this very minute.

I know that’s hard to believe, what with every shop window, airwave, and coffee cup channeling WINTER! SNOW! CHRISTMAS! But it’s true, I swear. I have receipts (not the holiday shopping kind, damnit!). Allow me to present my photographic evidence.

I went for a walk in Central Park this weekend and damn was it beautiful.

Nature displayed so many vivid leaves, you’d think she was competing with Times Square for the title of Most Colorful Place in New York. Mother wins this round the week, hands down.

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this November fall week…

Sunday was the New York Marathon. I didn’t make it to the side lines to cheer on the runners, but I did get a kick out of seeing the Queensboro Bridge COMPLETELY car-free at 4PM on race day! In a city known for bonkers traffic, it was very disorienting to see! Read More

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for HALLOWEEN WEEK.

A Toy Garden

In a very far east corner of the Lower East Side, I stumbled across this perennial garden. “Welcome to Wanda Z. Karloz Toy Garden” a sign above a pink plastic doll house proclaims. It’s an impressive collection of abandoned toys all outside an NYC housing project that made me smile as I passed by. And think about Toy Story 3 (such a good movie). Read More

What I Learned from One Entire Year of Daily Blogging

I haven’t blogged the past two days and it’s felt super, super weird. Also liberating. This past year, I posted something every single week day, and over half the weekends too. On Friday October 26th was my official completion of one year of daily blogging. I wasn’t sure I could do it but here we are 312 posts later. Whew! I am tired!

It’s been an interesting year with as many lessons as posts. In that year, I celebrated the 10th year anniversary of writing New York Cliché. 10 years and I decided the best way to mix things up was  an ultra blog marathon.

I once went on a couple dates with a guy who ran ultramarathons. If you’ve never heard of this before, I hadn’t either before this dude dropped his hobby bomb. Over a traditional first date beverage, I learned that ultramarathons are typically 50 or 100 mile races. WHAT THE FUCK? I screamed, flipping our table over in an outrage, WHAT HUMAN DOES THAT?! AS A HOBBY!?!

25 Adorably Costumed Doggos from the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade 2018

It’s Monday, news from the weekend makes the world seem bleaker than ever, and there’s an autumn chill in the air that I’m still struggling to dress appropriately for. Ugh. The only thing that’s getting me through today is puppies. Yesterday I got to see hundreds of adorable puppies in wildly creative costumes at one of my favorite NYC events of the entire year, the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade 2018. I’m sharing my favorites with you right here, right now, so you can get through Monday too!

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this October soon-to-be-Halloween week.

I am currently working a very corporate day job, but it’s not so bad when I sneak into sections of the office no one ever goes and find views like this. Totally worth it for the weird looks of “what is she doing?” Read More
