This summer, an art installation is attempting to turn the concrete jungle into a creepy, fairy tale woodland instead.

Along Broadway on the Upper West Side, from 64th to 157th, artist Kathy Ruttenburg has a series of 6 sculptures titled “In Dreams Awake”.

I’ve never heard any of these fairy tales…and I think I’d like to keep it that way. I wonder if all the children on the UWS are making up their own stories this summer.

“And then the little girl didn’t get into a good preschool, so she turned into a tree with nice legs.”

I need to go further uptown to catch all of them. Only saw the more down town half. This public art makes me miss my old neighborhoods on W 64th and W 157th!

If you’re in the area, definitely check them out. Through February 2019, so we all have plenty of time. I love public art, even if it’s of a giant mouse in a romper whose arms have been removed.

There’s so much great public art in the city this season! Madison Square Park, Rockefeller Center, and Broadway in the fashion District all have art you can walk by whenever.
