Weekly New York Minutes #9

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” Here we go for this middle of March…

My morning commute on a packed subway car got so much better when I saw this adorable Shiba Inu hanging out in a striped bag! A face that can melt hearts, even on the MTA. Last summer NYC mandated that dogs must be in containers to board the subway. The result is the cutest doggy bags ever and fleeting moments of actual joy on the subway!

My fella took me out to dinner at SHI in Long Island City where this was the view! As an admitted non-foodie, I’m definitely more dazzled by a view of Manhattan than I am by a Michelin star! The Japanese/Chinese food was delicious and the menu is really reasonably priced to be paired with the view. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a fairly fancy dinner on a budget.

Passing an abandoned ATM on 24th Street that has transformed into an art piece. Looks like these pink baby heads (remember them?) have branched out from Soho!

Went to a beautiful concert by the Manhattan Choral Ensemble. The program featured the winning pieces from their choral music competition, New Music for New York. All the music was inspired by NYC and the winner of the audience favorite, “New Day” by Arthur Bracco, had the ever so relatable chorus, “No trains running in Brooklyn“. I grew up singing in choir, if choral music has a place in your heart, I highly recommend checking out the Manhattan Choral Ensemble. They regularly perform through out New York.

My walk home from the subway in Brooklyn takes me past this lit up tree. It’s been decorated since December but this week I got to appreciate the new life it has for St. Paddy’s day!

Walking through a film shoot on my way to work! The crew transformed what is normally S.i.r. Studios into Schellhorn Funeral Home complete with a giant black hearse! Anyone have any clue what show is for? I can’t wait to find out!

Those were fun little moments of my week! How was yours?

  1. This is so cool! THAT WEE DOGS FACE THO – HE IS SO CUTE! the only dog i’ve ever seen on glasgow’s subway was a guide dog for a person with visual impairments and it licked my knees (idk it was cute but strange hahaha) That’s exciting about the film crew too! This is such a nice way to reflect on a week gone by 😀

  2. A great post. It also looks like an angel just landed on the bridge behind the arty ATM ?
NYC is one of my favorite places in the world, I love reading your blog, I’m waiting for a picture I can show my husband with “we’ve been there!” ?

  3. That Shiba work for the MTA???? cuz they should be the mascot!!! I had a Cute Encounter of the Pup Kind this week: a distinguished-looking older gent in round glasses and a driver’s cap was reading the New York Times and feeding his floofy chihuahua little pieces of croissant between news stories. Talk about an ODD COUPLE, this tall and serious, well-dressed man and his floofy, anxiety-ridden, tongue-sticking-out teensy pup in a bag just jonesin’ for pastry. It was ADORABLE.
Meghan Sara recently posted…GOOD NEWS! Congrats to the WINNER of ALL STARS 3!!!My Profile

  4. Love these! Of all the blog posts I write, I have to say the best ones to REFLECT on years later are the every day moments! It’s almost like an online diary, so fun!

p.s. aren’t dogs in bags on the subway the BEST?! So cute:-)
