Food trends are more reliable than seasons in NYC. Last week it was summer, Friday it was winter, and today it’s back to fall again!? You can’t count on the weather but you can count on there being a trendy beverage (available iced or hot) that all the cool kids are sipping (and gramming).
These days we’re all about green drinks. Find us in our Instragram Stories raving about the creamy yet leafy and ever so sweet taste of matcha. I had to try a latte for myself at Cha Cha Matcha.
Here’s the TEA: Live in NYC and you will walk a lot. My iPhone tells me I walk an average of 4 miles a day with out even trying. Let me tell you, walking 4 miles on frigid streets is made infinitely better with a decadent hot drink in your gloved hand. $5 a pop might seem like a lot, but hey, it’s our reward for walking instead of paying for car insurance.
This adorable matcha bar opened on 373 Broome Street in Nolita just over a year ago. Its popularity was so immediate, there’s already a second location on 1158 Broadway at 27th Street.
What is matcha you ask? SUPER POWERED GREEN TEA says their delightful in-store infographic.
The vibe and ambiance in the shop are as smooth as the drinks.
Complete with “matcha” puns and cha cha records every where?
Of course this is my cup of tea!
It got super crowded about 5 minutes later. This was in the middle of a Friday afternoon. It’s TEA-rendy!
We’re cutting edge in NYC! The rest of the country can get excited about Starbucks’ Toasted White Chocolate Mocha. We want something more exclusive, we’ll even wait in hour long lines for it.
Cha Cha Matcha is absolutely delicious and worth the hype (though maybe not a long line). If you’re in the Nolita of Madison Square Park area, give it a try. Thanks Ali A for really cluing me in to try this. She can speak to their iced lattes!
