Instagram Dessert Trend at New Territories Eats and Sweets on the LES

If you eat a “‘Grammable” dessert but don’t post it, the calories don’t count, right?

Because really, what’s the point?

I have mixed feelings about the current trend of dazzling looking desserts made explicitly for social media. Oh sure, they’re fun…but they usually don’t taste as good as they look. Not only that, they’re so often wasteful. Is there anything more First World than getting a giant, fancy looking dessert just to photograph, taking one bite, then throwing the rest out?

Then again, I hate to be the spoil-sport ragging on such fun, creative creations!

I visited New Territories on the Lower East Side and tried not to be a Negative Nancy.

This ice cream shop is all about sweeeeet looking desserts. They offer an NYC twist on traditional Hong Kong eats and sweets. The bubble waffle cone is their specialty, I was excited as I’d never tried one before. Read More

Weekly New York Minutes #25

Every Friday (but this week delayed to Sunday!) I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for my birthday week…

I had an absolutely wonderful birthday picnic in Bryant Park. We stayed until the lawn closed which is 11pm (contrary to the “10pm” closing time the website says!) After getting kicked off the lawn, I immediately ran back to take this photo, thus starting 32 with a total disregard for rules! Read More

3.2 Things I’ve Learned in 32 Years

It’s my birthday in one hour. 60 minutes until I turn 32.

32. I think that is actually the age Carry Bradshaw was in the first season of Sex and the City. I couldn’t help but wonder, have I officially reached my Sex and the City Years.

The shock of turning 30 has worn off and replying to “How old are you?” with “I’m 32” really feels no different than “I’m 31”.

With this birthday, I will again be 2 years older than my 30 year-old younger man, so that’s fun.

What the f**** have I learned in 32 years?

Escape NYC for Boston: DIVAS, Boyfriends, and Bill

No matter how much you love New York summer, it’s undeniable that one of the best parts of this season is escaping the city.

Shipping Up to Boston for a Weekend

My fella and I headed up to Boston for a weekend for a couple of reasons:

#1 To see a fantastic original play based on the work of my favorite fashion historian (who also happens to be a dear friend).

#2 My parents were in town from California and it was a chance for them to meet my boyfriend for the first time (eep!)!

#3 To hang out with New York Cliche’s biggest fan (super exciting)! Read More

New York Cliché of the Day: Soho Street Style Photo Shoots

Soho and street style go hand and hand. There’s no more quintessential street fashion photography than on the cobble stones streets of this NYC neighborhood now best know for its shopping and designer boutiques.

Fashion shoots and street photography are a constant in Soho, NYC

Most of the north-south streets in this area are still cobblestones. They’re a bitch to bike on, but they look great in photos! Read More

[Replay Cliché] Nothing in NYC is More Delightful than Boating in Central Park

Originally posted July 2015. Standing by my claim that nothing is more delightful!

There’s little I love more than New York summer nights. Nights where I have no real plans other than spending time with two of my best friends in the world. Nights where the sun doesn’t set until 8:30pm.

We all show up wearing matching outfits. We didn’t plan it, I swear!

This sort of thing doesn’t just happen. We had it as a sign and take it to the next level: SO CUTE IT HURTS. Let’s go boating!
