On Fridays I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this April week that sometimes kinda, sort felt like spring…
Game of Thrones invaded Rockefeller Center.
Where the famous Christmas tree stands every winter the infamous Throne of Swords was erected for the lead up to the final season release. The premier was in NYC last week and I watched them set up the catwalk, 20 yards from this throne display. Sometimes I feel like the only person in New York who hasn’t seen this show…
Twinkle turns to Flower Power
All winter (I mean waaay past the holidays) I was delighted by this simple twinkle light display in Chelsea. I mentioned it in my Weekly Minutes from January 18th:
Now spring has sprung, I was elated to walk down 22nd Street and discover this little source of street joy still remains, updated for the season!
Seriously, the flower power update made my day. It even has its own hashtag #peacelovechelsea
“Art and Identity in the Ancient Middle East” exhibit at the Met
You know how the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers- and the perfect excuse to visit NYC world class museums!” In anticipation of my upcoming vacation to Turkey (so excited!!), I checked out the Met’s exhibit of Middle Eastern art. Turkey isn’t quite the Middle East, but the exhibit got me even more pumped from my trip. The ancient history of the area was drilled into us in grade school (seems like I spent all of seventh grade studying Mesopotamia) so I love how the exhibited art recalled those lessons as well as tying in the current ISIS destruction of ancient structures and artifacts. If you are a history buff, don’t miss it- now through June 23rd, more info on the Met’s website.
Trash VS Art Conundrum
There are times in NYC life when you pass something on the street and cannot for the life of you surmise if what you saw is garbage or art. I relish these moments. This one happened mere blocks from the Met Museum in Manhattan’s notoriously upper-crust Upper East Side neighborhood. Which made its weirdness all the more delightful.
I love the flower power! I love reading your blog and it remains to be one of my favorites! Have a great evening.
Love the flower displays! So so pretty!
11th anniversary? Dang, lady. You’ve been putting in some WORDS! 😉 xx
More please. Of everything.
Photos. Love the street scenes. Makes me feel as if I am wandering about the city. Vicarious travel for the win.
Personal posts. Gives readers a feeling that there is a person behind the blog.
Recommendation posts. Not as much narrative interest but useful for travel planning. You find the smaller attractions that readers might not otherwise know about.
Suggestion for personal post. I know as much about acting as I do about climbing Everest. What was it about the business that did not appeal to you? What skills – other than acting talent – are required for a successful acting career?
OTOH, no one says you have to blog. *I* want you to keep blogging, but you were not put on this earth for my amusement. Maybe the desire for acting & for blogging came from the same place. Now you are ready for new adventures.
OTOHx2, I can totally see a one-woman show in your future. That would generate endless blog content.
I especially love the personal stories/essays and the street art posts. I’d love to see more from you, and will keep checking for updates, but agree with the above commenter – it’s not like you owe it to us. Your life is yours to keep as public or private as you want, and I think there’s a reason a lot of my favorite blogs kind of faded out around the decade mark. It takes a lot of work to keep it going.
I like to check your blog when my brain needs a quick break from work, so thanks for all the enjoyment you’ve given me through that! I wish you well whatever you decide to do regarding the blog. 🙂
