Every Friday (but this week delayed until Sunday!) I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for the last technical week of spring…
Pretty much every time I walk through Bryant Park in the summer, I see something delightful. This time it was a painter trying to capture the Empire State Building, which always looks striking across the lawn.
Walking east on 39th Street in Midtown and discovering the city has closed off traffic from even more blocks of Broadway. Pedestrians are taking over Broadway and it really makes the Times Square area less hellish. The literal street art and planters on the side make this mid-city walk way down right pleasant.
Peaking in the giant window of a store front on 5th Avenue and seeing an expansive white room with nothing in it except a silver sculpture of a rhino with all sorts of silver tables and chairs attached to him. Art exhibits are uncommon in this area, which made the scene more striking. This photo doesn’t capture the art all that well, but I love how it captures this minute of my week. If you want to see the sculpture, head to 43rd and 5th, or this NY Times article.
Looking up and seeing blue balloons stuck in a tree against the blue sky. In a city of 8 million birthdays a year, and countless other celebrations, I see lots of stuck balloons. It’s a little thing that always makes me smile.
Those are the fun moments from when I was in NYC this week and not out of town! What about you? How was your week?
