Saturday Street Art: Disappearing Art Doors of the East Village

If you walk through the East Village in the morning, while the neighborhood is still waking up, you’ll see art that disappears the minute businesses open.

East Village Street Art That Disappears When Shops Open Their Security Gates

These shop gates get to be canvases, not just security. Some of them serve as art and a preview of what you’d find inside the store.

Art on security gates happens all over New York City. But then East Village opens shop later than many other neighborhoods, so it’s easier to get the full display. I love how in a city when space is so precious, New Yorker artist take full advantage of any available square foot! Even if it’s forced into hibernation for waking hours.
