Weekly New York Minutes #17

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this week in the merry (Mary) month of May…

Sunday was the Kentucky Derby, so seeing some fabulous hats over the weekend was expected. I saw these lovely ladies lunching outside the Plaza Hotel on Saturday, so their attire was much more unexpected.  Don’t they look great? Also love the tiny Mets fan to their left who appears to be making mischief with a selfie stick. They’re all in the Pulitzer Fountain on 5th Avenue and 59th. When they turn the water, people use it for seating.

Went to a black box theater in the East Village and saw 6 original musicals that had been written in only 2 weeks, rehearsed in 2 weeks, and then performed twice in one night! Highlights included a 7th grade basketball showdown with some sweet choreography and the complicated love between a bodega owner and his cat. The concentration of creativity in the room and the energy produced from tight restrictions was electric. One Night Only: Musical SHOTZ! is produced every month by Amios NYC. It’s a fun, absolutely inspiring show. I recommend it!

Before going down into the David Bowie subway station, I checked out this urban farm planted on a Soho street corner, on display as part of “The Future of Everything Festival“. It claimed to be growing baby radishes, kale, arugula, chard, several kinds of lettuce, and chard, all in the most resource-efficient way possible. It felt like looking into a space station. Very cool but also a little sad at the same time.

Looks like the theme of the week was fountains! This one across from Radio City had the water turned on and a giant blow-up flower floating on it. NYC just can’t get enough of the spring flowers we earned from out April showers!

Here’s a sneak peak of the New York Cliché 10 year anniversary photoshoot I did with the talented, NYC-based photographer Peter DeGiglio this week! Yep, the TEN YEAR anniversary of starting this blog is just two weeks away and I have some fun things planned to celebrate!!! Look forward to many more NYCliche-tastic photos!

Thanks for all the sweet, supportive responses to Wednesday’s blog “Letting Go of My Dreams of an Acting Career”. I really appreciate it. I hope to share more of what I’m going through with my career struggles in future blogs. Special thanks to readers Katherine and Nikki for encouraging me to write more personal blog posts!

Those were nice little moments of my week! How was yours?

  1. The sneak peak from your photo shoot is amazing – can’t wait to see what you have planned! Also, so excited that you’re considering extending to a podcast or video. I would be the first to watch/listen to them!!
