Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” Here we go for this lion week of March…
You know it’s going to be a good week when you stumble across street art stencil magic on your way to work! “Stand here to activate your SUPER POWERS”. I tried my best to live up to this sign all week! Super powers ACTIVATED!
On my way to see an Off-Broadway in Times Square, I bumped into a familiar face. Yes, Times Square is basically a dirtier, foul-mouthed Disneyland, didn’t you know? The play I saw after this stormy sighting was excellent – Amy and the Orphans. There’s been buzz about this production because the central character has Down syndrome and an actress with Down syndrome was cast. Jamie Brewer is fantastic in the role of Amy and the whole cast is great. It’s a dark comedy with plenty to think about. If you’re under 35 you can get $25 tickets to it through Roundabout Theatre Company’s Hiptix program!
It snowed this week, did you hear? I camped out at my boyfriend’s place in Flushing, emerging only to get soup ingredients. That is a wonderful thing about NYC, you can get everything you need for a creamy cauliflower no matter what the weather!
Sleet and snow are a lot less brutal when you have warm soup and cuddles to look forward to!
This little garden on a traffic island in the middle of 9th Avenue in Chelsea is paradoxical and I love it. So full of contrasts: city and country, winter and spring. Also, how has no one stolen this smirky little frog? Not at all what you’d expect for the New York City streets!
Standing on the precipice of a sidewalk chalk premonition….
(#Stickntwisted is actually a sweet street art Instagram full of chalk, post-in note, and pipe cleaner creations.)
…that happened to be just around the corner from the High Line…
…where there actually are signs of spring! Look at these little purple crocuses down between the snow on the railroad tracks!
Cheers to the weekend (and offices with views and rose champagne on Fridays)!!
