Street Art Saturday: Color on Canal Street

In the gray, gloomy days of January I’m even more thankful for street art than usual. You know that’s saying something! Bless the paint and the artist that make outside colorful all year round.

This art corner on Canal Street is impossible to miss.  Come out of the Canal Street 6 train subway station and it will immediately catch your eye.

Three very different murals by 3 different artists all pulled together by their vibrancy. Brooklyn artist Cernesto created the above mural facing Canal Street that makes me imagine urban fairies.

Poetry mixes with imagery for an almost rainbow mural by artist Sex, El Niño de las Pinturas on the Lafayette side of the building. That’s the face and words of poet Garcia Lorca.

If you’re on Canal Street  you’re almost certain to pass them. Unfortunately their height makes details a bit difficult to make out but still, these art works make their building stunning.

  1. Today I had to write about New York at work and I almost made it about street art. Sadly my boss wouldn’t allow it, if she had I totally would have used your blog as a reference.
At first I didn’t notice these three weren’t really one big piece, it just looks like one gigantic collab. The colors are so vibrant. I appreciate black and white, but it’s colorful pieces like these that make my heart skip a beat.
