Winnie the Pooh was always down for a small smackerel, no matter how many honey pots he had just licked clean. After a large meal at a thai restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, three friends found themselves feeling a lot like ol’ Pooh Bear. Stuffed but craving something sweet. So we stopped in at Schmackary’s for a small schmackerel to satisfy our sweet tooths.

Shamackary’s Lip-Schmackin’ Good Cookies in NYC

Schmackary’s started as an online cookie delivery business, but in 2012 they opened up a shop on 45th Street and 9th, schmack in the heart of New York’s theatre district. It’s funny, I used to be on this block several times a week! When I first moved to NYC in 2008 (yup, my ten year anniversary is coming up!!), I was part of a theatre company that rehearsed at the building next door. If Schmackary’s had been open then, I never would have lost the 15 lbs I did when I moved to NYC!

Ok, enough memory lane, Mary Lane! Let’s get back to the sweet, sweet cookies!

 

Schmackary’s claim to fame is having the “most original” cookies in NYC.

It’s not just Fiddler on the Roof here (Traaaaaadition!!) but Lion King (creative, outside the box, hakuna matata), and maybe even Hamilton (flipping the genera on it’s head, the world turned upside down) too.

 

This cookie shop has over 45 different flavors, but they rotate daily and seasonally (so much variety, they even have an In-Store Flavor Calendar). We walked in and were faced with a choice of about a dozen different options. That was overwhelming enough!

Then a tray was brought out straight from the oven and, oh my, no sch’more decisions needed!

Rule: If you’re at a dessert shop and a tray is brought straight from the oven, always get that dessert!

The sch’mores cookie is everything you could ever want in a cookie…and s’more! Honey graham cracker base, semi-sweet chocolate, and toasted marshmallow.

Yeah…my friends and I shared one cookie between the three of us…which might very well be schmacrilege.

Ok, ok, ok, I need to end this post before I make more puns than Schmackary’s has flavors of cookies!

This is the perfect spot for a sweet treat before or after play, musical, or improv show! Bring your friends! They have many gluten-free options and even a vegan assortment, brownies and “schmackaroons” (that’s not my pun! It’s what they’re called on the website!) You can  get 2 cookies for $5, which is basically a sweet NYC bargain. The cookies are big enough to share!
