There is no meal in the the tristate area that’s as quick, cheap, and hot as the New York Dollar Slice. Defying the constant trends of NYC inflation, you can still find plenty of pretty great pizza for one dollar bill.
My favorite dollar slice in all New York is from a little hole-in-the-wall shop on Bleecker Street called Percy’s Pizza.
This place doesn’t have the crowds that the local chain 2 Bros does, unless it’s right when the neighborhood school gets out. I was greeted with a smile when I walked in and listened the the guy behind the counter chat with the customer after me, “Where are the little ones today?” Percy’s Pizza manages to have a feeling of a neighborhood pizza joint during the day and oasis for drunken Village party people at night.
What’s special about Percy’s Pizza dollar slice?
The crust! If you like thin, crispy crust like I do, you’ll be wowed by Percy’s! You can count on a satisfying crunch when you bite into a Percy’s slice, followed by a contrasting chewiness of oven baked pizza. So many pies, even in the Pizza Mecca of a Concrete Jungle, suffer from soggy crust! You never have to worry about that here. The cheese to sauce ratio on top of this stellar crust is just right.
I also enjoy the size of these slices. They aren’t massive, focusing on quality over quantity. One slice is just right for a drunken or after school snack. Two slices give you a full meal that you won’t feel greasy and gluttonous at the end of.
Percy’s Pizza is located on Bleecker Street at Macdougal, right in the thick of Greenwich Village.
