Comfort Food at the Sweet, Sweet Daly Pie Shop in Brooklyn

It was a difficult, emotional weekend and by Sunday night I just wanted something to make me feel better. So I turned to pie.

There’s a sign on the wall of Daly Pie, an adorable pie shop in Brooklyn, that reads “Pie makes it all better! Eat more pie.”

They know what they’re talking about.

Daly pie in Prospect Heights puts the comfort in comfort food. Perhaps it’s not surprising that walking into this pie shop gives you the same warm feeling as biting into pie fresh out of the oven. It feels like putting on your grandma’s apron. Like hanging out in your childhood best friend’s kitchen.

You get what I’m saying: Daly Pie has an atmosphere that’s sweeter than their cherry chocolate pie.

The focus here is on home-made, seasonal pies, mostly sweet and some savory. That’s not all. They serve wine, beer, coffee, and tea as well. Hap-PIE Hour starts at 5PM and will get you a slice of pie and a beer for $10.

People love Daly Pie so much they have raised money to keep it afloat while the owner battles cancer. Wow. Talk about heartwarming.

This is a wonderful place to meet a friend on a rainy Sunday, have a drink and a slice. Get in on the comfort. One of their specials is even called A Case of the Mondays.

What’s got me needing pie? Unfortunately, it’s more than a case of the Mondays. More than any amount of pie can make better for more than a fleeting moment. This is an awfully tough time for my family. My aunt‘s memorial was this weekend. My uncle, her brother, went into hospice the week before and passed away the day after the memorial. The loss of both these wonderful souls in such a short time hits especially hard.

Grief feels like a dull fog I’m trudging through, much like New York in February (minus the 78 degree day). I’m going to need a lot of hugs and maybe more slices of pie in the coming weeks.

Visit Daly Pie at 665 Vanderbilt Ave. in Brooklyn, they are open every day until 10PM.

  1. I was very sorry to read your news. It’s never easy to lose close family members especially so close together.
My sympathies to you and your family.
The pie shop does sound wonderful though.

  2. Two losses at the same time– I’m so sorry to hear that.
Thank you for the recommendation of a new-to-me pie shop. My husband is a pie-obsessive (he had a week off from work and went to a different pie shop every day). I can’t believe this one never showed up on his radar.
