New York Cliché of the Day: The Largest Christmas Tree In Brooklyn

It’s December 2017 and there is a huge divide in our country…

Between people who like colored twinkle lights  and those who prefer white twinkle lights.

*Lalalalalala let’s avoid political shit show for a couple moments and enjoy a show of frivolous holiday magic!*

WHAT SIDE DO YOU FALL ON??

We all know the iconic Rockefeller Christmas tree skews COLOR, with 50,000 (according to Wikipedia) red, green, blue, orange, and white lights circling its massive branches. It’s more than enough to make the eyes of a Christmas lights traditionalist twitch.

So what are those with white twinkle preferences to do? Feel like there’s something…tiki torchy about their disdain in diverse LEDs? Give up on the classic, brightest bulbs?

If you’re dreaming of a White Christmas, it’s okay! Just steer clear of Rockefeller Center and come to Brooklyn where the biggest tree in town is white twinkle top to trunk!

I stumbled across this tree last night in Downtown Brooklyn and was dazzled. “It rivals Rockefeller Center!” I thought to myself. When I sat down to blog about it, I looked it up and learned that this tree is indeed the second largest tree (**NOPE, SEE EDIT AT BOTTOM) in all of New York City!

You’ll find this holiday display in Downtown Brooklyn at 2 Metrotech Center.

Best of all? THERE ARE NO CROWDS! No tourists! You won’t be fighting ANYONE for a photo op and you can take as many selfies as you’d like!

Not as New York Cliché but hey, beautiful no?

An unexpected addition to  the list of differences between Brooklyn and Manhattan, no?

I love all holiday light displays, but there is something classic and simple about white lights that I truly love. You can’t go wrong with the warm white grow that matches everything, always.

What are your thoughts on the color VS white light conflict? USA Today has a funny (fluffy) story giving it thoroughly researched coverage  here.

**EDIT: So apparently this tree was indeed the 2nd largest tree in NYC…in 2015. I made the mistake of assuming that meant it would be this year as well. At 55 feet tall, it’s the same height as Byant Park’s Christmas tree. It still is the largest Christmas tree in Brooklyn though! Credit to @istillheartnewyork for fact checked the shit out of me on this one.

  1. I love best plain white lights, and preferably not the LED ones that shine a little blue. But that being said, it’s surprising how amazing colorful lights can look too, when done right. I suppose the contrast is the best part- if everyone was into white lights, it would be a lot more boring.
