While corporate America tries to force us into an early winter (stahhhhp) you’ll find me savoring the beauty of fall in Central Park.
With NYC weather remaining warm through October and now CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS EVERYWHERE (shut up til Thanksgiving, PLEASE), it would be so easy to miss this gorgeous season! Going straight into the cold and gray of winter sounds like the perfect storm for Seasonal Depression. We can’t let those cute fall boots go unworn!
Zip them up, step in a park, and crunch some leaves! Crunch therapy, I call it, a proven de-stressor.
I know it’s hard to count on anything weather-wise with climate change these days, but I also know: Winter will be here before we know it and last longer than we ever want it to. This is the calm before the Holiday Season storm.
Savor it with some moments of reflection and time spent outdoors while you can stand it sans parka.
Notice a blue jay, staring across the Central Park Pond, contemplating his life choices. Should I get the hell out of oh here? New York winters are rough, not for the faint of feather. Should I fly somewhere warmer? But how can I leave New York?? I have to stay to fly to the top of the Rockefeller Christmas tree!
I hear ya, Jay. California is my home state, every cold snap I wonder if I should run away to my warm (ish, we’re talking San Francisco, not LA) home land. The great of New York always outweighs the cold bad. California has nothing that can compare to this:
Soon we’ll all be a tizzy of holiday shopping and decorating and parties. No time for walks! Too cold! So let me insist, with the persistence of a subway preacher: take a stroll through fall this week, while you can. Go on your lunch break, instead of spending it behind your desk. No free day light hours? I even like Central Park walks in the dark.
If you absolutely can’t make it to Central Park, or any other park…here some more snap shots to live vicariously through.
I completely agree with you about the rush from Summer to Winter! What is wrong with people?! The huge slightly-above-a-dollar store right near my apartment had Christmas trees and garland and decorations up in their display window TWO WEEKS before Halloween, it drives me insane! Anyways, I hope you enjoy the next few weeks of Fall – as a fellow California girl (SoCal), I totally feel ya about the cold winter weather haha. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
You’re right, Central Park is beautiful in the fall. It is our first (and only) autumn to be spent here and we are enjoying this season every chance we get. We went into Target to get some Halloween decorations for our apartment door and they had taken out all the Halloween stuff and were putting up Christmas displays. I thought, “What happened to Thanksgiving?” Oh, well….Thanks for another great post.

WAHH I AM SO JEALOUS. I talked about this in my last post but Leo & I were supposed to go to the park on Sunday but a stupid health mishap prevented us from getting there. We went to some parks in Long Island and it just wasn’t the same. Hope to get there soon; it’s my favorite!

Yup, that clinches it. I simply must move to NYC so I can experience this myself. Let me go check into parka prices now… 🙂
