The Most New York Cliché Photoshoot Ever with Peter DeGiglio Photography

For my 10 year blog anniversary, I wanted to celebrate with something fun, useful to the blog, and extra New York Cliché. What better way than an ultimate NYC photoshoot!

My friend Peter is a photographer with some serious skills. He was more than happy to run around NYC one Saturday morning capturing me in my cliché finest. We looked like massive tourists- me in my souvenir shirt, him with his massive camera. We got some funny looks, a lot of smiles, and most importantly, some great photos! Read More

Dog Walking in New York City

It seems so hard to have a dog in New York City. The New York clichés of tiny apartments, few back yards, and significant commutes can be enough to turn dog lovers into cat people. It seemed to me like the cons far outweighed the pros. That all changed this week when I took a friend’s puppy for a walk.

Isn’t he the cutest golden doodle fluff?

Turns out that having a puppy beside you of the city streets completely transforms the New York experience. Everyone is friendly! Strangers interact with you constantly. Attractive women squeal and run up to you. I see the appeal here. A puppy is kind of like a celebrity, except it’s not weird if you ask if you can pet them! Read More

[Replay Cliché] City Girls Leave The City

Originally posted June 2012. I escaped the city this weekend for the
bachelorette party of one of my besties featured in this post!
The hike in this post is still one of my favorite day trips away from NYC.

It’s easy to get trapped in New York City. Everything you need is here, that is part of the Big Apple allure. One day you wake up and realize you haven’t been outside the five mile radius in six months. NYC and you, you’ve become that couple, the one who spends every moment together. You need time apart, you know it’ll be good for you. It’s not easy to pry yourself away from a love like New York, you need to be up for the challenge.

When Sheep Meadow starts looking like this, it usually means it’s time for a change of scenery.
One sunny Sunday morning, three city girls woke up and decided they were up for the challenge.

Saturday Street Art: The Lucky Cat at the Corner of 2nd and 2nd

Confession: sometimes when I say, “Sorry I’m late, the train was a mess!” I really mean, “I have a street addiction and I passed a beautiful wall and, and, I couldn’t not stop! I’m sorry! Here, look at the photos, your would’ve stopped too, right?”

At 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue in the East Village, there’s this intriguing building next to a pocket community garden.   Read More

Weekly New York Minutes #20

Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this last (what!?) week of May…

Walking to the Long Island City waterfront, I looked up and saw Lady Liberty just hanging out on a rooftop. Her presence seemed entirely random, which of course made me smile. She seems well attended to though, her torch was lit and an almost full moon was keeping her company! Read More

12 Types of New York City Tourists

Tourist Season is now in full swing in New York City. It’s always fun to see people experience what’s my every day with fresh, appreciative eyes! Tourists are as ripe for people watching as any of the 8 million in NYC. New Yorkers get really good at spotting them, it’s kind of a fun urban scavenger hunt. Here are my observations on the types who visit:

1. The Dreamer

Obsessed with New York City, the Dreamer probably (secretly) owns an I♥NY shirt and definitely dreams of moving here someday. Most likely to try to blend in with locals and get the most out of their precious time in the best city in the world.

What’s It Like to Actually Use Citi Bike NYC

There are so many options for public transportation in NYC. Unfortunately, they’re all easy to complain about. Everyone hates the MTA, taxis are too expensive, Ubers get stuck in traffic, and walking is just too slow. These days, my favorite way to get around New York is Citi Bike.

Citi Bike NYC: New York’s Rideshare Program

This May marked the 5th year anniversary of Citi Bike in NYC. I’ve been a member for 2 years. I love jumping on a bike whenever I want and then not having to worry about it when I’m done. Biking is so often the fastest way to get across town. I zoom past traffic, high above the subway tunnels and “Ladies and Gentlemen we are delayed” announcements. Citi Bike keeps me shockingly on time! Ridesharing has revolutionize my chronic tardinessRead More
