Weekly New York Minutes #25

Every Friday (but this week delayed to Sunday!) I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for my birthday week…

I had an absolutely wonderful birthday picnic in Bryant Park. We stayed until the lawn closed which is 11pm (contrary to the “10pm” closing time the website says!) After getting kicked off the lawn, I immediately ran back to take this photo, thus starting 32 with a total disregard for rules!

Passed this truck on 5th Avenue that is carrying a lion, pink elephant, small red dinosaur, and an alligator. It appears to be an advertisement for a local chain of antique shops Olde Good Things. I am amused and wondering how many people see this and think, “Just what I’m in the market for! A large pink elephant!” Great New York minute? Yes. Effective marketing? I’m doubtful. But also blogging about it, so there’s that!

It is street fair season! I rarely go out looking for a street fair, but I love when I just happen upon them. They’re all pretty much the same- same gyros, same frozen lemonade, same knick-knacks. Still, it’s always fun to wander through one. They are quintessential NYC summer. This one was on 43rd Street just east of Grand Central- you can see the eagle above the terminal entrance in the background.

Listening to poetry out of The Poetry Jukebox. This yellow contraption appeared recently in Greenwich Village on Greenwich Ave and 6th. It a speaker that spouts out the words of famous poets including Edgar Allen Poe, Jack Kerouac, and Mark Twain. The project started in Prague, NYC’s new Jukebox is one of many all over the world- see the locations here.

Those were fun little moments of my week. How was yours? thanks for all the birthday wishes here and on my Instagram
