Every Friday I feature some fleeting moments from my week that made me stop and think, “I’m so lucky to live in NYC!” And maybe some that made me think, “Bahaha this city is ridiculous and I love it.” Here we go for this beautiful week of May…
There is new public art at Rockefeller Center! It’s a book with wings titled “Uraeus” by sculptor Anselm Kiefer. You can read all about the artist intention with this work here, or you can be like me, unable to see this as anything but a Harry Potter homage. A physical HP book had a baby with a Golden Snitch and it’s perfect!
Speaking of golden, I was walking by the the High Line during that peak golden hour of sunset. This photo doesn’t do it justice, but seeing the brilliant orange sky just under the elevated park is an awesome man vs nature sight.
Pink flowers resting on the steps outside an art gallery in Chelsea. They didn’t seem to be part of the gallery show, but you never know with artists! I absolutely love finding flowers in unexpected places. And not just flowers…
Also mushrooms! I spotted this huge cropping of mushrooms while biking in Prospect Park. I know a lot of people are afraid of them but my mother is a mushroom expert! Many times in my childhood, she would find mushrooms while we were hiking, or even in a city park like this, identifying them as edible, and bringing them home to cook! Seeing these made me miss my mom. I have no idea if they are a yummy edible kind, but my mommy would!
Shared the subway platform this is cutie pooch! Adorable dogs make waiting for the subway so much better. The MTA should really spend it’s budget on getting comfort dogs in every station, no?
