Street art has such popularity that massive companies have caught on and capitalized on it. “Hand-painted” advertising murals uses the genuine and creative nature of street art to promote commodities like shoes and sodas. It’s weird…
What’s up with hand-painted mural advertisements?
I had to look twice at this Nike advert to realized every inch is painted on the wall. Then I was torn about my feelings- on one hand it’s cool that The Man is giving artists a way to support themselves. Then again…you have to wonder who is actually painting the murals. I have a hunch the person holding the paint brush has zero creative input. Is The Man just taking an art form and using it to their $$$ advantage??
There’s a lot of this going on in Williamsburg. On a sunny day, you might even see one of the ads being painted.
“Snacking Fantastic”, what an inspiring artistic vision.
Have you seen any of these mural ads? How do you feel about them?
Is the manual paint labor just cheaper than large scale printing? Are they hoping to get extra exposure from people like me who love Instagraming street art pics?

I don’t like it. These canvases should be saved for the true street artists!
