When it comes to dessert, in 2018 I want to go big or go without! No more newsstand candy bars eaten while waiting for the subway. Occasional indulgences for my sweet tooth rather than constant placating!
This resolve is enough to drive a sugar lover to the bar….
Spot Dessert Bar NYC
This place is adorable, unique, and all around sweet. It’s so popular it has two locations on the same block of St. Marks in the East Village along with another Manhattan location in Korea Town and still another in Flushing, Queens. Spot Dessert Bar is known for unique, whimsical, Asian influenced, signature desserts.
The presentation here makes everything extra special. The minute I saw a potted plant on the dessert menu- UM WHAT?- I knew my curiosity wouldn’t be satiated until I dug into it for myself!
Seriously! A dessert that looks like a potted plant!
Spot Dessert Bar’s Signature “The Harvest”
This dessert is a delightful mind fuck. It’s served in a tera cotta pot that appears to be full of dirt and growing a lively sprig of parsley. I hesitated putting my fork in: Oreo crumbs look exactly like real dirt!
It comes served with a tangy raspberry sorbet and a “watering can” of black rose milk tea that you are instructed to water the plant with. Did that enhance the flavor of the dessert? Eh, I’m not sure. Nor do I really care – it’s an adorable touch that just enhances the delightfulness of this gimmicky dessert.
It’s not all about looks, I promise. The Harvest is as delicious as it is whimsical.
Under the dirt I found layers of soft cheesecake, raspberries, strawberries, and blue berries. Every bite was different and I enjoyed the excavation required to get to the bottom of the pot. Cheesecake can often be overwhelmingly dense or rich, but this had a lightness that perfectly complimented the fresh berries.
I adore desserts with berries so I was a big fan. If you order this dessert expecting it to be chocolatey like the top layer of dirt, you will be disappointed. The rest of Spot Dessert Bar’s menu features gorgeous plating – The Harvest is the one gimmicky treat on their list. I very much enjoyed it but also look forward to going back to try the signature desserts whose looks complement their tastes!
How do you feel about fun, gimmicky desserts? Would you eat something out of a planter pot? Do you like fruit desserts or are you chocolate all the way?

Cute post! I think illusion desserts are so strange, they fascinate me but I don’t know how I’d feel about eating one haha! The plant idea is cool though

That’s insane! I genuinely thought that was a plant on your plate. I mean, it is gimmicky but it’s super cute and definitely memorable. Looks delicious too! x
