I have a shocking Holiday season confession to make.
One that could synch me any game of Never Have I Ever.
Are you prepared to gasp in horror, exclaiming, “Are you serious?! What was wrong with your parents!?”
Never have I ever seen the beloved holiday classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.
Golly gee, Mary, that’s bonkers! I know! How the heck is it possible that I’ve avoided cinematic, classic Christmas masterpiece for 31 years?
I’m a freak who grew up in the 90s with a black and white TV. This is not a joke. But, but “It’s A Wonderful Life” is a black and white film! It would’ve been perfect! Yeah well, we didn’t have VCR either! Or cable!
How the heck did I avoid social outcast, I see you wondering. Well, I got really good at lying on the playground. “Yes, Elementary School Nemisis, I tooootaaallly watched Power Rangers! I can even prove it by telling you the pink one is my favorite!”
A defense mechanism and probably the origin of my acting talent. This along with Christmas pageants.
So now you understand why I never watched it as a kid It’s A Wonderful Life. What’s stopping me as an adult? Well, I can’t just Netflix it by myself, can I? That would be even weirder than never having seen it! No. My viewing has to be special! Festive! Magical?
To be completely honest, I don’t even really know what it’s about. Which is kind of magical if you think about it! How many 31 year old Americans get to experience It’s A Wonderful Life for the first time?
I think this is the year I finally watch it.
Should I live-tweet it?
This film is such a classic, so highly acclaimed, such a holiday tradition that every year the IFC Center screens It’s A Wonderful Life. Not just as a one-night-only special event, no. There are multiple screenings every day starting tomorrow (December 8th) through Christmas Day! It’s that popular. I really have no excuse!

There’s also the option of snuggling up on the coach with my main squeeze. Not only does he have a DVD player, it’s also one of his favorite films.
If your boyfriend loves that film you should totally watch it with him but it’s fine to watch on your own too.
I usually end up watching it at Christmas time along with that other classic “Miracle on 34th Street” and any version of “A Christmas Carol” I come across if I don’t reread the book. I’m quite partial to Bill Murray’s “Scrooged” even though it is a modern adaption
I’ve never seen it either! It was on TV the other night but it was the last twenty minutes…one of these days I need to find it on Netflix or wherever and just watch it. I know it’s a classic but I don’t particularly love old movies so I’m not sure how I’ll like it……. report back once you’ve seen!
