6 Non-Cliché Ideas For Celebrating Valentine’s Day in NYC

It’s February 1st (SO LONG, JANUARY!), time to make those Valentine’s Day NYC reservations! Finding a place for a romantic dinner on February 14th gets cut-throat in this town. What if you want to do something a little different? Maybe even avoid the crowds and couples and go out on an adjacent day? I’ve got some ideas:

Hold hands and go for a spin on the rink in Bryant Park

Ice skating is so classic, perfect for winter, and it’s a great way to find if your date is someone who clings to the wall or risks falling! Skating is FREE but skate rental is $20. Bring your own lock at you can use free lockers to put your shoes! Open Valentine’s Day until 10PM.

Sample sweets with your sweetie on a Chocolate Tour of Brooklyn

This tour takes you all over Brooklyn sampling the best chocolate treats and learning a local’s scoop of so many different neighborhoods. It’s a blast. It looks like their February 14th tour is already sold out (cut throat!!!), but stretch your celebration and get in there for the 16th!

Remember all your awkward teenage Valentines at Mortified Live

This show features people reading from their teenaged diaries “with no embellishment, no exaggeration, just God-given awkwardness.” This always makes for a hilarious time and I have a feeling they have something extra special ready for their Valentine’s Day show on Febrary 8th in Brooklyn! (Above picture of me at a “fashion faux pas” theme party is not part of the show, but it sure is mortifying!)

Jitterbug at the Sweethearts Soiree

The same people who throw the Jazz Age Lawn Party, one of my favorite events of the summer, are hosting a V-Day soiree! Live music, dancing, and cocktails – this is the most dapper event you’ll find this February. I have a feeling that, just like the Jazz Age Lawn Party, everyone gets into the swing of things and it’s a hoot!

Show your cat lady you support her passion at a cat cafe

NYC has several cat cafes now! You can head to these establishments, by a drink and a treat and hang out with cats for an hour! It’s not your average “let’s get coffee” and for the kitty-obsessed, this would be a fantastic surprise. Most cat cafes do require reservations, so check before you go. Have breakfast for dinner and celebrate your LOVE at Clinton Street Baking Co where they are celebrating PANCAKES all month

Clinton Street Baking Co has my favorite pancakes in all of New York City. Every February they celebrate “Pancake Month” with different flavors of pancakes everyday. No one in NYC can ever get enough brunch, right?
