New York Cliché of the Day: Sarah Jessica Parker Celebrity Sighting

One of the most coveted spots on the cliché New York Vacation Bucket List is SPOT A CELEBRITY. With this star-studded season of Broadway shows, you can make this happen by loitering around the stage doors of Meteor Shower or Waitress. With some patience you’re very likely to likely catch a glimpse of Amy Schumer, Keegan-Michael Key, or Jason Mraz. Of course the most satisfying celebrity sightings are out in the wilds of the Concrete Jungle. While it’s a tough order if you’re just visiting, call Manhattan for any length of time, and you will see celebrities. “They’re just like us.”

My most recent run-in was with the absolute ultimate New York cliché A-lister. I ran into none other than Carrie Bradshaw herself on a Friday night in the West Village.

There is basically no where in Manhattan, hell no where in the world, hotter than the Village on a Friday night. Michelin-starred restaurants with the sexiest mood lighting are full of amazing smells, beautiful people, and all boast at least hour long waits. Bars feature glamorous cocktails poured by the most perfect specimens of the actor/bartender cliché. At 10PM the streets are crowded with people just beginning their nights on the town.

So where in this cosmopolitan glamor did I run into Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker?

At a CVS.

I’m not kidding!

I ran into the drug store to pick up some make-up remover and there, under the florescent bulbs, right in front of the Tropicana juices, was Sarah Jessica Parker. She was wearing sweatpants, a hoodie, and 5 inch heeled booties. SJP in sweatpants!? My heart swooned. She was speaking to a fan who was as star struck as could be.

“Thank you, thank you so much. That’s so sweet of you,” said Sarah Jessica, and then headed to the cash register. What was she buying? I have no idea. Did I think about talking to her? Sure….but…she was clearly on a quick ‘n dirty CVS run. I’m a New Yorker, we don’t bother celebrities! That’s part of our street cred! We’re too cool for that shit! I didn’t even take a photo, though the urge was intense.

I don’t need to invade Sarah Jessica’s privacy for a tawdry paparazzi shot. No. Not when we are now proved kindred spirits. As if there was any doubt before. It’s enough to just bask in the knowledge that me, the blogger Carrie Bradshaw cliché and the OG Carrie Bradshaw SJP, both spend our Friday nights shopping at CVS.

  1. Oh man this would have been hard for me because I have LOVED her for so long. I love celeb sightings like this, though — ones where you see them living their life in a very basic manner, looking all human & shit.
